Update on Matchpoint Tournament

Once again, laughter prevailed at the Matchpoint FUNdraiser as the talented Versatile competitors struggled to take their opponents out in one FATAL BLOW!!
Many improved their critical decision – making court skills after finding out how Easy it was to win or lose a point sometimes without hitting a shot. Our tennis pro, Super Dave, usually a man of few words kept the pace going & surprised us By challenging the Men’s Singles A Champion, the nan from Slovenia, Dave de Boer!
An easy victory for SUPER DAVE- our exceptional tennis pro!
Congratulations!

$1000.00 was raised for PATHSTONE CHARITY FOR TROUBLED YOUTH

Pathstone was represented by Kim Rossi

Update on Recycling and Promoting the Idea of Recycling
to the rest of the
Tennis community in Niagara

Hello everyone

Here are the highlights of the meeting held at Young’s Sportsplex.

In attendance were reps from Young’s, Grimsby TC, Graham Martin, owner of ReBOUND CANADA and Gene Kiernicki

Invited were: Fort Erie TC, Vineland TC and White Oaks Resort. It was a “short notice” invitation explaining why others couldn’t attend.
Graham stated his company’s mission is to redirect sports equipment (hockey pucks, footballs, soccer balls) from landfill sites by using the materials on site or selling to a third part.

Its was noted that ReBOUND CANADA is a donor to Canadian Tire’s “Jump Start” in the spirit of supporting sports for today’s youth.

He is based in Alliston and Bolton, in operation for 10 years, with most of recycling coming from the GTA. Some of his associate Sports facilities are: The Granite Club, The Mayfair Tennis Club, The Boulevard Club, and in Niagara Region, Niagara on the Lake TC and Welland TC.

ReBOUND recycling includes “skinning” tennis balls, processing the rubber to capture the carbon or shredding it. They have developed various molds for multi-purpose applications.

His services to Sporting facilities include providing collection bins, storage bags, posters, attending membership occasions and pickups.

Pickups costs are shared by all participating Tennis clubs.

The recycling program at WTC has gone very well with our members expressing their appreciation that we are participating in such a worthy cause.  NOTL TC has arranged to send their recycling to us and shares the pickup cost. Graham’s Q and A at our Club during the Rose City Tennis Tournament allowed members to meet him and to get an understanding of the recycling process and products. We all appreciated the flat of strawberries he donated to the afternoon’s snacks.

Graham is available to meet reps from the Clubs which weren’t able to make the meeting on the 9th.

Gene Kiernicki
Recycling Coordinator WTC
