| Payton Dith Update Our 13 year old Junior Girl member is back from Europe. She represented Canada in 4 Tournaments. Payton made two quarter finals and in one of the other tournaments lost in the first round against the number one seed. It was a heartbreaking loss as Payton had a match point. Payton enjoyed the courts and courtyards. Great effort Payton, Congratulations! Recycling Update We recently received a bag of tennis balls and a bag of tennis ball containers from NOTL Club. WTC is the collection centre for the tennis recycling at our two clubs and we are encouraging other regional tennis centres to join our recycling efforts. In fact, ReBOUND CANADA will be meeting with Management at Young’s Sportsplex to establish a Recycling Program for this coming indoor tennis season. We’re happy to play a role in encouraging tennis recycling in Niagara Region. Gene Kiernicki Recycling Coordinator Oktoberfest Planning Committee The Oktoberfest Committee has started its planning for the last Tournament of the season. The tournament will be held September 28 until October 1. We are looking for anyone who wishes to be one of the Sponsors of the tournament with a monetary donation, a prize or prizes for the winners/finalists or raffle prizes. As well, we are looking for volunteers for the event. Please let the Tournament Director, Mike Robinson at mjracquetman@yahoo.ca know if you are interested in supporting the tournament. Thank you!   Dave Boland and Frank DancevicThe Davis Cup made an appearance in Niagara on the Lake. The Davis Cup trophy which was won by the team of Felix Auger-Aliassime, Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau, Vasek Posposil and Denis Shapovalov, captained by Dancevic, spent an afternoon in NOTL for a four hour event. Frank Dancevic is from Niagara Falls. Italian Social- Sunday, Aug 20, 11 am – 2 pm, $20 per player, Lunch is Chicken Parm, cavittelli Pasta and Caesar Salad Men’s and Ladies Singles Club Championship– Wednesday, August 23 – Sunday, August 27, $20, Entry Deadline- Monday, August 21 at 6 pm, Junior Club Championships– Monday, August 28 – Thursday, August 31, Cost- Singles $10/player and Doubles $5/player. Pro has right to set up Doubles Teams for equalization purposes. If you need a partner, Sign up and we will try to find you one. Entry Deadline- Friday, August 25, 6 pm. The Flex League is a fun, competitive evening of tennis taking place one evening each month from May until September. The qualifiers for the three Over 55 teams and the three Over 65 teams competed in the OSGA Provincial tournament in Brantford August 9-11. Fran Doran was honoured as the Flag Bearer for District 24 at the Opening Ceremonies. Brantford hosted an amazing event with great competition renewing old acquaintances from previous years as well as meeting new competitors. Here are the results: Over 55 Mens Doubles – Hank Andrulis and Gerry McIlhone Gold Medal Over 55 Ladies Doubles – Marie McAuley and Leslie Wale 4th place Over 55 Mixed Doubles – Don Pozojevic and Diane deMoel Silver Medal Over 65 Mens Doubles – George Najbert and Manny Umoquit Gold Medal Over 65 Ladies Doubles – Fran Doran and Kim Laidlaw Silver Medal Over 65 Mixed Doubles – Michael Robinson and Kathi Pizzacalla Silver Medal Congratulations to all teams for their performances and results for this year’s OSGA event. District 24 was represented by some of the strongest tennis players in Ontario Our Gold medalists have qualified for the Canada 55+ Games hosted by Quebec City in August 2024 along with last year’s Over 55 + Mens Doubles team of Michael Robinson and Sabino Maione.
