Volunteers are Needed to prepare the Clubhouse for the season.
Hang the Windscreens (bring 3 step step stool); Put away dishes etc in kitchen; Set up furniture inside and out
Please drop in and assist for one hour or three.

Adult Leagues
Ladies and Men’s Leagues start the week of May 4th.
The First two weeks of all Leagues are Tryouts – no pre registration is required.
New for 2026 is a Ladies Doubles A League
- Ladies Doubles A League- 3.5 -4.0 Level
- Wednesday 9:30 – 11:00 am

| Recycling Tennis Balls
For the past several years the Welland and Niagara on the Lake Tennis Club’s have led an initiative to Recycle Tennis Balls. For 2026 this effort has been greatly expanded under the direction of Gene Kiernicki from Welland, Carol MacSween from Niagara on the Lake and Rosemary Goodwin from South West Region to include more clubs from Niagara Region, Hamilton and Halton Region. The importance of this initiative was recognized by the OTA and Tennis Canada through their partnership with Recycleballs Canada, a non-profit recycling service based in Quebec for used Balls from across Canada.
This initiative is critically important for many reasons including the following:
- 125 million tennis balls end up in landfills in North America alone
- Tennis balls take over 400 years to decompose producing enormous amounts of harmful methane gas
Recycle and Repurpose:
Recycleballs Canada works with Tandev in Quebec managing the collection of balls and shipping them to a US Reycling plant in Virginia

- All Tennis Balls collected in Ontario are sent to West Virginia, USA where there is a machine called “Sylvia”. Sylvia is the size of a dump truck and can peel the felt off a ball and grind the rubber at a rate of 10,000 balls a day
- The rubber granules are used for Tennis court surfaces, Equestrian and Playground turf, Landscaping mulch and many other things
- A company called “LAYKOLD” buys the rubber granules to build the courts. It is USTA approved and has built courts for the US Open, Miami, Dallas, Cincinnati, Toronto National and Wuhan China.
- WTA requires only Laykold courts for their tournaments.
How you can part of the Recycling Process:
We are asking Members of the Tennis club to drop off used balls into the Bins. The bins are situated across from the door to the clay courts.
Process:
- The Welland Tennis Club purchases cardboard containers from RecycleBalls Canada, each holding 200 balls
- These full collection bins will then be brought to the Sobey’s Centre in Toronto where Volunteers will be put the bins on a train to Virginia for repurposing.
