WTC Resurfaces Courts with $66,100 OTF Grant

WTC Receives OTF Grant

This month, the Welland Tennis Club completed construction on four newly resurfaced, state of the art hard courts. The project was made possible by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) which provided $66,100 capital grant that supplied funding to resurface two of the four tennis courts. The courts are already in use and being enjoyed by the club’s members.

The OTF grant has been a welcomed boost to the Welland Tennis Club. Prior to resurfacing, the courts were showing signs of age after years of use and were in desperate need of repair. The OTF grant came at the perfect time and allowed the club to resurface all four courts. Before the OTF grant approval, the club had only planned on resurfacing two courts during the 2020 season.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be underestimated,” said Jeremy Rocca, President of the Welland Tennis Club board of directors. “This grant has allowed us to overhaul the courts in a way that otherwise would not have been possible. This upgrade allows our facility to continue hosting various tournaments, including local, regional, provincial and high school competitions.”

These courts will also be used for Welland Tennis Club’s junior program, which aims to teach youth the importance of sportsmanship, social skills and teamwork fundamentals. The program has been a starting point for many provincial and national level competitors and helps to foster the next generation of tennis players.

The Welland Tennis Club is honored to provide a quality tennis facility to the residents of Niagara and the resurfaced courts will ensure that standard for years to come. If you are interested in joining the Welland Tennis Club, please click on Membership at the top of this page.
